Every year on April 28, we observe the Day of Mourning — a day to remember workers who have lost their lives to workplace injury or disease.
Last year, 138 B.C. workers died from a workplace injury or disease. On April 28, we honour those friends, family members, and colleagues.
WorkSafeBC is committed to engaging with workers and employers in building a culture of health and safety in B.C. workplaces.
Employers can positively influence the culture in their workplaces by proactively identifying and addressing health and safety issues, and encouraging their workers to share feedback and be a part of their organization’s health and safety approach. Workers can help build a health and safety culture by speaking up when they see unsafe conditions, and by knowing their rights — including the right to know about hazards in the workplace, to participate in health and safety activities in the workplace, and to refuse unsafe work.

IBEW Local 213 observes the Day of Mourning as a moment to reflect on the true cost of work and the value of every life. It is a day that asks us to remember not just loss, but the lives, families, and futures behind each name.
Memory becomes a shared responsibility, carried not only in ceremony but in conscience.
Grief is met with solidarity, and silence speaks to what words cannot hold.
The past is not distant - it shapes how we see risk, care, and responsibility today.
In this space, remembrance becomes a quiet call for awareness and dignity in all work..
IBEW 213 honours those who are gone by holding firm to the belief that every worker’s life matters.
As a dedicated advocate in workplace health and safety across BC, Regehr Workplace Safety Solutions believes safety is about more than compliance—it’s about commitment. On this National Day of Mourning, we remember the workers who never made it home and honour the families who live with that loss. Together, we stand committed to creating safer workplaces, so that every worker returns home—today and every day.
