"Smoky," and  "honeyed" are two terms used to describe the vocal style of Madelein Peyroux, often compared to the legendary Billie Holiday. She began her career as a teenager busking in the streets of Paris before achieving international acclaim with her 2004 album Careless Love.

Born in Georgia, raised in Brooklyn and Paris; she dropped out of school at 15 to join a touring blues and jazz band and had a breakthrough with her 2004 album, Careless Love, which sold over 500,000 copies and was certified gold in the US.

Her ninth studio album, Let’s Walk, was released in 2024 and features personal and political themes.
