Euge Groove- The Phoenix

From his dog to his granddaughter, Billboard-charting saxophone star Euge Groove’s new album gets inspiration from those he loves. But The Phoenix is also an album that ultimately comes from a place of self-reflection & gratitude. To understand why, how about a little backstory?

Euge, whose real name is Steven Eugene Grove, was born in Hagerstown, Maryland. He started playing piano in grade 2 and took up the sax at age 9. But decades later, in January 2025 he experienced a life-threatening health crisis that included open-heart surgery. This journey of recovery is the inspiration behind his 14th studio album.

There are 10-songs to enjoy including “Wrapped Around Your Finger”. This song is a sentimental-feeling gem about his first grandchild. There’s also “Odysseus”, a song about his cardiac-alert service dog who he credits for saving his life.

In August, Euge says he felt 25 again when he returned to the stage for the first time since his health crisis. Some fans in the crowd pointed out that the way his sweat formed on the back of his suit jacket looked like a phoenix rising. How fitting!

Euge Groove is now passing through Vancouver this month to board the Smooth Jazz Cruise 2026. And guess who will be with him? Odysseus the Bernedoodle, of course!
