10 Questions for Carol Albert! (her latest hit "Sunshine Yellow" - with Peter White - is currently #2 on our Wave Top Ten!)
1. How old were you when you first started playing the piano?
I started playing the piano sitting next to my Grandmother who played by ear. She had her right arm amputated due to cancer and that was considered a treatment then. I would sit next to her and learn
the right hand parts while she played the left hand parts. I started taking lessons after I recovered from a broken arm falling off a gym set. Learning to read music was never hard for me, it felt very natural. Today I’m happy I learned how to play by ear and read music in my background.
2. Who was/is your biggest musical inspiration
I listened to a lot of instrumental music growing up. I was inspired by a very wide cross section from Bach, Burt Bacharach to Elton John. I was in awe of Stevie Wonder and listened to his albums over and over growing up.
3. Where do you make your home?
I live in the south in a metro Atlanta suburb of Georgia.
4. Do you have any pets?
Zeno and Marigold are my Goldendoodle dogs, also brother and sister. They love to hunt in my backyard, sometimes bringing in possums, rabbits, mice and whatever they can catch. You can imagine the chaos trapping them when they are still alive to take to the woods in another location.
5. What is the best concert/gig you have ever done?
Myron’s Cabaret Jazz at the Smith Center in Las Vegas.
6. What is the best concert you have ever attended?
That’s a tough one. I’ve attended some amazing concerts. Michael Jackson on tour, Billy Joel, early Elton John jumping on top of his piano, Earth, Wind & Fire and so many more .
7. Do you have an all-time favourite song or album?
Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder
8. What musician would you still most like to work with?
I think Layla Hathaway has the most beautiful soulful voice and would love her to sing one of my original vocal songs.
9. If you weren't a musician what would you be?
I can’t imagine ever being anything different.
10. What is your favourite thing about Vancouver?
I’ve only been to Vancouver once but I remember the water and pristine city. I love to hike and it’s surrounded by mountains. It also has a lot of diverse things to visit like art galleries, theatre and music scenes.
