Getting to Know Our Stars! - Matt Dusk - crooner.

1. How old were you when you first started singing?
I started singing at the age of 7 with the St. Michael’s Choir School. I’m still best friends with many of those classmates today!

2. Who was/is your biggest musical inspiration?
I always admired the suave coolness of the great crooners. They dressed in suits, always had a cocktail in their hands, and just oozed sophistication. I wanted to be like them! Musically, I was hugely inspired by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, and Billie Holiday. They had such effortless style and storytelling in their voices.

3. Where do you make your home?
Born and raised in Toronto, I still live here! A few years ago, we rebuilt a house where my childhood home stood. I also spent four years living in Las Vegas, which was an incredible experience, especially as a jazz singer.

4. Do you have any pets? (please tell us names and breeds)
Nope, no pets.

5. What is the best concert/gig you have ever done?
Performing with the Metropole Orchestra for their Sinatra 100th concert tour was an unforgettable experience. The energy of that orchestra and the legacy of Sinatra made it truly special.

6. What is the best concert you have ever attended?
Harry Connick Jr. puts on an incredible show. He’s a true musician’s musician—effortlessly blending jazz, swing, and New Orleans vibes with insane talent.

7. Do you have an all-time favourite song or album?
Sinatra’s Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! is a masterpiece. It’s the perfect mix of energy, charm, and impeccable arrangements.

8. What musician would you still most like to work with?
Even though they’re no longer with us, I would have given anything to have performed with Ella Fitzgerald or Antônio Carlos Jobim. Their music still gives me chills.

9. If you weren't a musician, what would you be?
I’ve been sailing since I can remember, so I’d probably be a captain of a ship, sailing the world. There’s something about being on the water that just feels right.

10. What is your favourite thing about Vancouver?
The Hollywood Theatre - my absolute favourite venue in the world!
